Senior BRS leader Shaik Abdullah Sohail today accused Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of pursuing a vindictive and unlawful agenda against former Chief Minister and BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao.
Addressing the media, Sohail strongly objected to the manner in which police served notices to KCR in the phone-tapping case. He alleged that despite KCR officially providing his residential address, the police officials visited a different location late at night and pasted the notices on the gate of a house where he was not present. Calling the act arrogant and shameful, Sohail said that it reflected clear political vendetta.
Describing KCR as the architect of Telangana, Sohail said that the action amounted to an insult not only to the Leader of the Opposition but also to the sentiments of the people. "This is a deliberate attempt to harass a leader who led the Telangana movement," he said.
The BRS leader also said that legal norms mandated that individuals above 65 years of age be questioned at their residence. "KCR is 70 years old, yet even basic procedures are being violated. Is this ignorance or a deliberate misuse of the police machinery?" he asked.
Accusing the Congress government of using intimidation to silence the opposition, Sohail warned the government that such actions set a dangerous precedent in a democracy.
"The people of Telangana are watching closely. Today it is KCR; tomorrow it could be any dissenting voice. This arrogance will not go unanswered," he said.
He also said that the BRS had full faith in the judiciary and that all politically motivated cases would eventually be exposed.
