BRS working president K T Rama Rao today said that the party was shocked by the Lok Sabha election results.
The party did not win even a single one of the 17 Lok Sabha seats for Telangana. It had won nine in 2019.
The Congress and the BJP won eight seats each, and MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi retained his Hyderabad seat.
"We have seen all kinds of ups and downs in the 24 years of our party. Along with great successes, we have faced many setbacks. Our biggest honour was achieving statehood for the Telangana region. We formed the government twice in a row with excellent majorities. In 2014 we formed the government with 63 Assembly seats, and in 2018 we formed the government for the second time with 88 Assembly seats. At present we are the main opposition party in the Assembly with 39 seats, which is 1/3rd of the seats in the assembly. Today's election results are definitely disappointing," he said in a statement that barely appeared like a concession.
He asserted that the party would work harder and reach higher peaks, and asked its leaders to work hard for its victory in the coming days.
Many exit polls had predicted that the BRS may not win any Lok Sabha seats. The party has seen a stunning reversal of fortunes since the Assembly elections of December 2023.
