BRS Worked For BJP Victory In Lok Sabha Elections: Revanth Reddy

The Telangana CM alleged that the BRS had fielded weak candidates, indirectly causing the defeat of the Congress candidates and enabling the BJP victories.
Hyderabad | 5th June 2024
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today alleged that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) had fielded weak candidates in the Telangana Lok Sabha elections, indirectly causing the defeat of the Congress candidates and enabling the victories of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Speaking at a press conference at his residence, the CM accused BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao of entering into a tacit understanding with the BJP, and said that KCR had committed political suicide by transferring his party's votes to the saffron party.

"The BRS, which got 37.5% votes in the Assembly elections, fell to 16.5% in the Lok Sabha elections. Its candidates even lost their deposits in seven Lok Sabha constituencies in Telangana where BJP candidates emerged victorious. In the Medak Lok Sabha constituency, former minister Harish Rao completely transferred his party's votes in the Siddipet Assembly constituency to BJP candidate Raghunandan Rao. Congress candidate Neelam Madhu was defeated due to transfer of votes from the BRS to the BJP," Revanth Reddy claimed.

The CM said that KCR had sold out his party to the BJP, and that the pink party would not be born again in Telangana after this.

Expressing happiness at the Congress' performance in Telangana Lok Sabha seats, the CM said that while in the 2023 Assembly elections the party got 39.5% of the votes, in the Lok Sabha elections it achieved 41% votes, resulting in its winning 8 of the 17 Lok Sabha seats in the State.

He added that BJP leaders went to the public in the name of Modi's guarantees, but the saffron party fell from 303 seats to 240.

"The people have judged that Modi's guarantee is out of warranty. The people of the country have rejected the Prime Minister. He should immediately resign from the post of Prime Minister and should not take charge again," Reddy said.

The Chief Minister also said that whatever government was formed in Andhra Pradesh, the Telangana government would work with it to resolve the pending issues between the two States, added that the Congress was committed to implementing the promise of Special Status for AP.
