Telangana Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav today said that the state government's sheep distribution scheme had resulted in the generation of revenue worth Rs 5,490 crore in Telangana.
Replying to the questions raised by some MLAs on the matter during today's Question Hour at the ongoing Budget session, he stated that the state had 3,66,976 units of sheep after the government had spent Rs 4,58,720 crore on the implementation of the livestock scheme so far.
"Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's will and spirit are indomitable. He is deeply committed to ensuring the welfare of his people. It was with this vision that he had introduced the sheep distribution scheme. The program, as we can all see, has gone on to improve the financial condition of the Golla Kuruma community. Our government's dedication to the program's implementation is reflected in the fact that despite the rises in the price of sheep due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have allocated Rs 3,000 crore for the distribution. With the funds, we will distribute livestock to 3 lakh shepherds in the state. Further, we will soon release the guidelines for the second phase of the distribution," the minister said.
Yadav also said that the government was committed to bolstering traditional trades and livelihoods in order to strengthen the rural economy of Telangana, and added, "Our government has implemented many other novel schemes the likes of which our predecessors in undivided Andhra Pradesh had never thought of."
