Former minister Marri Shashidhar Reddy on Tuesday said that the election of the Nereducharla municipal chairperson was a mockery of democracy.
Speaking to media persons, he alleged that the officials of the state government and the State Election Commission had become puppets in the hands of the ruling TRS leaders.
He said that the voting rights of the members should be as per the notice issued by the State Election Commission. However the TRS leaders had prepared another list of members with voting rights on Monday. He said that there was nothing more pathetic than this.
Reddy alleged that the State Election Commission had clearly connived with the TRS government, and that the Commission had not taken action on any of the complaints made by the Congress. The functioning of the Election Commission was shameful, and the Congress had boycotted the chairperson elections as it had not listened to them, he said.
He also condemned the arrests of TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Rajya Sabha member K V P Ramachandra Rao.
TPCC spokesperson G Niranjan too alleged that the Election Commission had conspired with the state government to ensure the victory of the TRS leaders. As an example, he claimed that the ex-officio vote of a member was added after the beginning of the election process. He also alleged that the names of ex-officio members were added in an illegal manner.
Niranjan also said that State Election Commissioner V Nagi Reddy had insulted them by denying them an appointment on the issue, and demanded that the state government immediately remove the Election Commissioner.
