For the people from the two Telugu states that have been suffering oppressive heat and have been forced to remain indoors resulting in arterial roads in cities and towns looking deserted, there's further bad news. The weather forecasting centres have indicated that the heat waves in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will continue for the next three days.
Many places recorded very high temperatures today. Hyderabad recorded 40.5 degrees, and Medak and Adilabad districts in Telangana, and Anantapur, Kurnool and Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh recorded 41 degrees. Vijayawada recorded 37 degrees temperature, and Vishakapatnam recorded 31 degrees.
With the prevailing south-easterly and southerly winds over Telangana, the maximum temperatures are likely to be above normal by 2-4 degrees Celsius, and there will be no significant change in the minimum temperature during the next one week, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, said. The maximum temperatures will be in the range of 38 degrees Celsius to 43 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperatures will be in the range of 23 degrees Celsius to 27 degrees Celsius.
"Since March 19, there has been no weather system (trough or cyclonic circulation) along the sea coast. Usually, these systems help bring the temperature down by pulling over cloud cover. But in the last two weeks there has been a lull in such activity," said Dr K Naga Ratna, a scientist from the weather department.
IMD officials said that Hyderabad's temperature would rise to 41 degrees by the weekend, and asked people to avoid going outdoors during the late mornings and early afternoons for the next few days.
