The intensity of the sun has increased in the two Telugu States from the beginning of March.
The mercury levels have risen significantly in Vijayawada for the past one week. The day temperature was recorded as 33.6 degrees Celsius five days back, exceeded 35 degrees Celsius for the past couple of days, and hit 37 degrees Celsius today. The officials of the weather department said that the temperatures would increase further in the coming days.
The Rayalaseema region usually has the highest temperatures, and this years is expected to be no different. The sun is blazing especially fiercely in Anantapur district, hitting 37 degrees Celsius. However, the day temperature in some other parts of AP was recorded at even 38 degrees Celsius. According to the Met officials, the temperatures are likely to rise further for the next five days.
The health department had asked people to take adequate precautions to protect themselves from the soaring temperatures.
In Telangana, Siddipet, Mulugu and Wanaparthy districts recorded the highest temperatures - 39 degrees Celsius in each of the three districts. The night temperatures are also above the normal level. The meteorological department has indicated that the intensity of the heat wave is likely to continue from Sunday to Thursday. Experts say that record temperatures are expected this summer.
