Primary Education Minister S Sailajanath, on Thursday, appealed to the leaders of all political parties to meet on a single platform to prevent division of Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress Legislature Party office, Sailajanath said that leaders across party lines should launch a joint agitation to pressurise the Centre to reverse its decision on the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh to create a Telangana state.
He claimed that all Congress leaders from the coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions were firm on keeping the state united, and that they have been making sincere efforts to stop state's division.
Sailajanath asked the Telugu Desam Party and the YSR Congress party to change their approach and attitude towards the issue of the bifurcation of the state. He said that both the parties must make a single statement expressing their stand.
The minister also said that Congress ministers and legislators from the Seemandhra region would stage a dharna at Mahatma Gandhi's statue in the Assembly premises, on September 3. (INN)
