Badminton superstars hailing from the city Saina Nehwal, Pusarla Sindhu and Srikanth Kidambi did India proud on the last day of the quadrennial Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast in Australia.
The women's singles final, an all-India - even all-Hyderabad - affair between Saina Nehwal and Pusarla Sindhu, resulted in Nehwal beating Sindhu 21-18, 23-21 in straight sets.
This is Nehwal's second Commonwealth Games singles gold. She also won the Olympic bronze in 2012.
Nehwal redeemed herself in style after starting off the games in some controversy when she tweeted that she might not play for the country if her father was not given accommodation in the Games Village.
Sindhu had to settle for silver.
However, current badminton world no. 1 Srikanth Kidambi suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Malaysian star and world no. 7 Lee Chong Wei 19-21 21-14 21-14 to finish with silver.
