Ace shuttler Saina Nehwal on Wednesday joined the BJP in New Delhi.
She was welcomed by some of the party's top leaders at the central party office in the capital.
BJP national general secretary Arun Singh gave the membership slip to Nehwal on the occasion.
Nehwal's elder sister Chandransu Nehwal also joined the saffron party along with her sister.
Speaking on the occasion, Saina Nehwal said that she was happy to join the BJP as it was ably serving the nation. She also said that she liked leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as his government was doing a lot for the development of sports.
Born in Haryana, Saina Nehwal was brought up in Hyderabad, and had turned an international star under the training of former all-England champion Pullela Gopichand. She won a total of 24 international titles in her career. She also became world no. 2 in 2009 and world no. 1 in 2015.
