Health and Finance Minister T Harish Rao today said that the government would allocate Rs 10,000 crore to strengthen the health sector in the state.
He was speaking after inaugurating a 100-bed ICU unit with modern equipment at the Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad.
Announcing that Rs 33 crore would be released for the construction of another 800-bed facility at hospital, the minister claimed that the state government was quite committed to strengthening the health sector.
"After the coronavirus-triggered pandemic we made major progress in surpassing problems in the health sector. To equip the sector even more, we are ready to spend a further Rs 10,000 crore," the minister said.
Rao claimed that Telangana was doing quite well on health metrics, and had surpassed the national average in vaccination. Efforts were now on to make the government health facilities provide services on par with corporate hospitals, he said.
The government would also start work on four super-specialty hospitals in the city, Rao said. These hospitals to come up in four different sides of the city would ensure the best medical services, he claimed.
The health minister also said that the government had allotted Rs 133 crore to tackle a possible third wave of Covid in the state.
