Passengers in 4 bogeys of the Secunderabad-Tirupati Padmavati Express were relieved of their cash and gold ornaments by an armed gang of robbers, in the early hours of Saturday.
The robbers then pulled the train about 30 km from Bapatla and made off under the cover of pre-dawn darkness. Sleepy and confused passengers claimed that the gang consisted of about 15 goons. They said that the gang boarded the train near Guntur.
The passengers filed a complaint with the railway police at Gudur Junction. The railway police have taken up investigations.
Saturday's robbery is the 4th such incident during the last 3 months. Thieves had looted passengers of Narayanadri Express twice, while Chennai Express was looted once.
