Rise In Crime Cases In Hyderabad In 2023

City Police Commissioner Srinivas Reddy today said that the crime rate in Hyderabad had increased slightly in 2023.
He said that there was a 2% rise in crime in the year as compared to 2022.
79 murders, 262 attempted murders, 403 rape cases, 242 kidnappings, 91 thefts, 4,909 cheating cases and 2,637 road accidents had been registered, Reddy said.
He also said that 75% of lost property had been recovered, and that the loss incurred in various cases was estimated at Rs 38 crore.
63% of offenders had been punished in 2023, and 13 were sentenced to life imprisonment, he said.

Real estate crimes had increased by 3%
Robberies had increased by 9%
POCSO cases had come down by 12%
Crimes against women had increased by 12%, with 403 rapes compared to 343 last year
Cyber crimes had increased by 11%, with Rs 133 crore stolen compared to Rs 82 crore last year
Economic offences increased to 344 from 292
The CP also said that complaints through the social media had increased and that such complaints were being resolved expeditiously.
"For the first time in the country, a cyber crime wing has been set up. We have called experts on cyber security and created awareness," he said. He also said that the Narcotics Bureau was working hard to eradicate drugs, and that drug suppliers would be caught wherever they were. "We are using sniper dogs to eradicate drugs," he added.
He said that the New Year's eve celebrations needed to be concluded before 1 am, and that strict action would be taken if the rules were violated.
The CP also responded on the postings of police officers. He made it clear that recommendation letters and staff seeking specific postings would not be entertained. "Only competent officials will be put on duty. We will see to it that there are no politics in the matter of postings. We have registered cases against eight persons for dereliction of duty and indulging in crimes. Seven have been suspended from service. Another 50 people are being investigated," he said.
