In one of the biggest drug seizures of the year, Telangana's elite anti-drug unit EAGLE, in a joint operation with RNCC Khammam and the Cyberabad narcotics police station, seized 847 kg of high-grade ganja worth over Rs 4.2 crore.
Along with the ganja, police also seized a Mahindra Bolero, two mobile phones and a 23-inch sword carried for protection.
The consignment, being transported from Odisha to Uttar Pradesh, was intercepted at Shamshabad, and two persons from Malkangiri, Odisha, were arrested.
The arrested accused, Khilla Dhana (29) and Rajendar Bajing (26), have prior drug-trafficking records and were operating under a well-organized network led by Ramesh Sukri, who is currently absconding.
The syndicate used HDPE packaging, rural routes and basic phones to evade detection.
A case has been registered under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act.
EAGLE officials said the bust had significantly disrupted a major smuggling corridor to North India.
The public are urged to report any drug-related activity to the helpline 1908. All informant identities will be kept confidential.
