Newly appointed Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar today said that the phone-tapping case would be thoroughly reviewed and appropriate action would follow.
Addressing the media after taking charge, Sajjanar expressed gratitude to the Telangana government for the opportunity given to him. He said that he would implement reforms drawing on his extensive experience, and that his priority was to build a "people's welfare police" to ensure safety and security in the city.
He praised the Hyderabad Commissionerate for its teamwork, and noted that festivals and major events had so far been conducted peacefully. He also lauded the force for solving high-profile cases, and urged citizens to cooperate with it to enable it to continue that kind of work in the future too, saying that every citizen was also a police officer.
Sajjanar identified drug abuse, cybercrime, food adulteration and traffic issues as his top priorities. On narcotics, he said, "We will clamp down on drug trafficking and rowdy sheeters with an iron foot. The PD Act will be invoked where needed, a database of accused persons will be created, and the Eagle Team will be strengthened. The government is serious about curbing narcotics." He also recalled his earlier "Say No to Drugs" campaign.
On cybercrime, the CP cautioned citizens against digital fraud and greed-driven scams, and said that awareness drives on the issues would be expanded. He reiterated that betting apps remained banned.
Regarding food adulteration, he promised a crackdown on all the gangs involved. On traffic issues, he described drunken drivers as "suicide bombers", and pledged intensified checks and long-term regulatory measures to save lives and time.
He also said that strict action would be taken against crimes targeting women and children. He also promised enhanced police welfare through recognition and rewards for outstanding officers.
Stressing the importance of technology, he said that CCTV surveillance would be enhanced and outlined plans to ensure that cameras were installed in every building to deter criminal activity. He also announced plans to introduce AI-based grievance redressal and explore drone technology in policing, and train officers in their use.
He warned police officers that indulging in corruption and illegal activities would result in stern action. Emphasizing Hyderabad's identity as a city of peace and communal harmony, he said that policing would reflect the Ganga-Jamuna tehzeeb of the city.
