Telangana Congress leader and Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy was today arrested by the city police for staging a dharna at the inauguration ceremony of a water tank in L B Nagar.
The leader, along with other Congress workers, was protesting against IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao who had been invited for the inauguration of the tank.
It all started when KTR and several other TRS leaders, including local MLA Sudheer Reddy, arrived for the function before the scheduled time of 12:30 pm, and completed the ceremony without waiting for Revanth Reddy and the Congress workers.
This left Reddy feeling infuriated as he had been specifically invited for the ceremony by KTR himself, and prompted him (Reddy) to express his displeasure at being "ignored" by staging a dharna at the venue.
This left to some friction between the leaders, which forced the police present at the venue to arrest Reddy. They then took him to the Pahadi Shareef police station.
Speaking about the incident, Reddy said, "KTR first sent me an invitation that stated that the inaugural ceremony would begin at 12:30 pm today. But by the time I reached the spot, the inauguration had already been done by the TRS leaders and other officials, at 11 am itself. When I arrived, I was even stopped by the police from attending the function."
While this may appear a petty squabble, of late many political parties in the state have been lashing out at the TRS government for a number of reasons, including the non-implementation of the recommendations of the 11th Pay Revision Commission. While the Congress recently unveiled
a massive agitation plan against the government's decision to welcome the Centre's new farm Acts, the TJS also staged
a demonstration against the state government's alleged failure to stand by the teachers of the state.
