The Congress has decided to hold state-wide dharnas on August 5 following a call given by the AICC (All India Congress Committee).
TPCC President Revanth Reddy asked all the party's leaders in Telangana to hold dharnas across the State protesting the steep rises in the prices of essential commodities, petrol, diesel and domestic gas cylinders.
He said that the party would also protest the increase in GST that was further burdening the common people of the country, the growing unemployment, the economic slowdown and the Agnipath scheme, and added that the party would hold the dharnas from the village level to the state level.
He also said that the party would highlight the "negligent" attitude of the State and the union governments in extending flood relief to the victims of the recent floods. He alleged that the State and the union governments had completely failed in coming to the rescue of the flood victims. The state had faced crop losses in 20 lakh acres, and the losses were estimated at Rs. 2,000 crore, he claimed, and said that the party leaders and workers should fight till compensation was paid to the flood victims and the farmers.
He said that the TPCC would hold the dharna programs in the State capital, too. TPCC working president Mahesh Kumar Goud said that the Revanth Reddy and CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka would take part in the dharnas to be held in the capital.
