TPCC chief Revanth Reddy came to take an oath at the Martyrs' Memorial there. He was accompanied by TPCC working president Anjan Kumar Yadav. However, the police prevented them from conducting the protest program as the election code was in force.
The Congress leaders then entered into an argument with the police, with Revanth Reddy asking the police why permission was not being given to them. As the situation got out of hand, Reddy and Yadav were taken into custody by the police and whisked away in a vehicle.
Tension prevailed in the locality as Congress workers tried to block the arrest. The Congress leaders and activists then staged a sit-in on the road in protest against the police action. Revanth Reddy was taken to Gandhi Bhavan by the police and dropped off there.
Two days ago, Reddy challenged CM K Chandrashekar Rao to face the upcoming elections without distributing money and liquor, and take an oath today at the Martyrs' Memorial to that effect along with himself. Reddy along with Congress leaders reached the Martyrs' Memorial to fulfill their end of the challenge. The police, who were already heavily deployed there, stopped Reddy and the other Congress leaders, resulting in the fracas.
