The TRS told the Law Commission today that the party was ready for Assembly elections to all states at the same time from 2019.
TRS MP B Vinod Kumar communicated this to the Law Commission at a special meeting of all political parties that discussed the issue in Delhi.
Talking to media persons later, Kumar said that the TRS was ready for simultaneous elections, and that he had presented a letter written by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in this regard to the Commission.
"This debate has been going on for decades, and has not been raked up just now by the Modi government or the BJP," he said. "The Law Commission has been discussing the issue since 1986, and some political parties and states are not ready for simultaneous elections as their governments' terms would end prematurely. But simultaneous elections for Parliament and the various Assemblies will ensure better governance both at the Centre and in the states, and will also prevent wastage of money and time. The two Telugu States are going for polls in 2019 at the same time as elections for the Lok Sabha are scheduled, and we feel that other states should go in for elections at the same time, too," he said.
"There is also a feeling that there might be early elections, and we are ready for them," he added.
