Prominent leaders from the Greater Rayalaseema region on Tuesday wrote a letter to the
high power committee demanding that it recommend the setting up of the Andhra Pradesh capital in the Rayalaseema region.
Pointing out that only three leaders from the Rayalaseema region were in the high power committee and that the rest belonged to the coastal Andhra region, Rayalaseema leaders Gangula Prathap Reddy, Mysoora Reddy, Shailajanath, Chenga Reddy and others said that that would almost certainly lead to bias, and reminded the committee that the people of the Rayalaseema region had made several sacrifices for the unity of the Telugu people, including giving 80,000 acres of land for the construction of the Srisailam reservoir without expecting any benefits..
They said that having AP's capital in their region was the sentiment of the people of Rayalaseema, and that the latter should not be disappinted once again.
A meeting was held in this regard on Monday where prominent leaders like former MPs Gangula Prathap Reddy and M V Mysoora Reddy, former ministers Dr Shailajanath and R Chenga Reddy, former MLAs K Madhana Mohana Reddy, K Madhusudhan Gupta and Dr V Shivarama Krishna Rao, former Directors General of Police Anjaneya Reddy and Dinesh Reddy, former Municipal Chairman Shankar Reddy, advocates N V Sumanth (son of Dwarakanath Reddy), Siva Prasad Rao, D Sudhakar Reddy and Balaji, journalist leaders Uppala Lakshman and Radha Krishna, former commissioner of RTA Imtiyaz Ahmed, Prof T Madhavi, G Veera Reddy, Dr K Goutham Reddy and others urged the members of the high power committee to recommend at least one capital for the Greater Rayalaseema region in its report.
