Alleging huge misappropriation of funds, the Telugu Desam Party on Tuesday demanded a high-level enquiry into the spending by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation for the global biodiversity conference.
Addressing a press conference here, TDP's GHMC floor leader Singireddy Srinivas Reddy alleged that the corporation has misappropriated funds sanctioned for the CoP-11. Citing an example, he said that although the Hyderabad International Convention Centre was a private property owned by Emaar Group, the GHMC has utilised its funds for roads, cleaning of lakes and other activities.
Srinivas Reddy alleged that the GHMC's funds were spent to benefit private parties and that the common man did not gain out of such spending. He said that while hundreds of crores of rupees were spent in Hitec City and Cyberabad areas, thousands of people were living in Old City slums without having basic civic amenities.
While focusing their entire attention on the CoP-11, he alleged that the GHMC officials have completely failed to take steps to prevent the outbreak of Dengue and other viral diseases within the GHMC limits. He demanded that immediate steps be taken to control the menace.
The TDP leader also condemned the criticism of TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu by the ruling Congress party leaders. He said it was Naidu's vision and initiatives that brought Hyderabad on the international map. He said that Necklace Road, Hitec City, the International Airport and several others projects were planned or executed during the TDP's rule. He said that Congress party leaders were reaping the fruits whose seeds were sown by Chandrababu Naidu. (INN)
