After hearing the case of the sensational
gang-rape and murder of veterinary doctor Priyanka Reddy under the Shadnagar police station limits, the Mandal Executive Magistrate today ordered 14-day judicial custody for the culprits.
The accused were shifted to the Chanchalguda jail.
A large number of people, including women and members of public organizations, staged protests at the magistrate's office demanding the death sentence for the four accused. To control the tense situation, a huge police force was deployed at the site.
Even earlier, with the four accused being kept under arrest in the Shamshabad police station, a massive protest was organized at Shamshabad by students bringing vehicular traffic to a grinding halt.
In general, protests broke out all across the two Telugu States and the national capital, too.
The State government responded to the furore by promising a speedy trial in a fast track court to punish the guilty. The Opposition parties demanded that the government punish the accused with the death sentence.
The Federation of Advocates' Unions have unanimously decided not to defend the accused in the court.
