Charismatic Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi is likely to be appointed as in-charge of the party's Telangana unit.
The All-India Congress Committee (AICC) has reportedly agreed in principle to appoint Gandhi as the next in-charge for the state.
She will reportedly also be made the in-charge of the party's units in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
The party will make a formal announcement on the issue after the meeting of the CWC (Congress Working Committee).
According to party sources, Gandhi will act as the full-time incharge of the party units for Telangana and Karnataka.
The decision of the party high command to make Gandhi the state in-charge is being seen an important development ahead of the upcoming by-election to the Munugodu Assembly seat.
