Telangana Jagruti leaders today besieged the TGPSC office in Nampally, demanding justice for Group-1 candidates and the announcement of a job calendar.
About 400 Jagruti activists and leaders staged the protest in two phases, gathering in front of the main gate and shouting slogans against the State government.
They said that the High Court had pointed out numerous shortcomings in the way the Congress government had conducted the Group-1 exams. They also alleged that the government's failures were evident in every aspect - from the issuance of GO No 29, which they described as unfair to SC, ST and BC students, to the conduct of the prelims and the mains exams, and the announcement of the results.
They also criticised certain individuals in the government for promoting Group-1 posts as if they were for sale. They urged the government not to fall into traps but to hold meaningful discussions with the unemployed youth and take appropriate action, and take steps to ensure justice for them.
The Jagruti leaders also expressed anger over the Congress abandoning its promise to fill 2 lakh jobs in the first year if it won. They also accused the government of announcing a bogus job calendar in the Assembly and failing to issue even a single new notification so far. They demanded that the job calendar be announced immediately and that vacancies be filled without delay.
The protesting Telangana Jagruti leaders were arrested by police and taken to the Nampally and Afzal Ganj police stations. Some leaders who tried to climb the TGPSC gate were reportedly beaten with lathis. Several activists were injured during the scuffle that ensued.
