The police foiled the Asha workers' proposed huge rally at the Indira Park on Friday by resorting to arrests everywhere in the city.
The Asha workers, who have been agitating for the last one month, had decided to organize a huge meeting at Indira Park on Friday.
Asha workers from all parts of the State started arriving in Hyderabad since Thursday night even though the government had not given permission for the meeting stating law and order concerns as a reason.
The workers announced that they would organize a meeting at any cost despite the government denying permission.
The government then deployed a huge police force at Indira Park, and detained the Asha workers at various places.
The police also detained the leaders of the various trade unions.
In retaliation, at the Musheerabad chowrastha, hundreds of Asha workers staged a rastha roko by sitting on the road. That resulted in serious traffic snarls.
Extending solidarity to the Asha workers, CITU and CPM leaders also staged a sit-in along with the workers. The Musheerabad police then reached the spot and arrested the agitating Asha workers.
Several workers received injuries in the jostling that took place during the arrests. The police shifted a woman named Radha, who fell unconscious, to the Gandhi Hospital for treatment.
