Activists of the Progressive Democratic Students Union on Tuesday demanded solutions to the various problems faced by students staying in hostels, by staging a protest in front of the Hyderabad Collector's office.
The PDSU activists demanded that the state government provide mess facilities to ST, SC and BC students.
The activists further said that 10 to 13 LPG cylinders should be supplied to each hostel by the Civil Supplies Department.
They also demanded an increase in the charges of toiletries, by Rs. 50 for boys and Rs. 80 for girls; and said that the students should be provided cloths, plates, blankets and glasses, among other articles, every year in June and July.
They also demanded better rice, and an advance stock of one month to be stored in each hostel.
They further asked for more bathrooms in the hostels, proportionate to the number of students.
After submitting a memorandum to the Collector, the PDSU activists urged him to visit the hostels on Friday and see the conditions for himself.
Collector Natarajan Gulzar assured the activists that he would try to find a solution to the problems of students living in hostels.
