Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today expressed anger over the surge in food poisoning cases in Telangana's government schools (including Gurukul Schools) and hostels.
He asked the district Collectors to treat the students of the government schools and hostels across the State like their own children, and stop neglecting providing food in hygienic conditions.
The Chief Minister held a series of reviews on the recent food poisoning incidents in the schools and hostels. He instructed the Collectors to inspect the government schools and hostels frequently, and submit the relevant reports.
The CM expressed regret over the mistakes committed despite the repeated orders, and warned officials and staff that he would remove them if the negligence continued.
He also said that some people were deliberately creating rumours and spreading false news about the supply of food in hostels and creating panic among the parents of students. He lamented that despite taking positive decisions for the welfare of students, some forces were trying to defame the government, and said that such forces would be dealt with strictly and those responsible would be punished as per the law.
The CM told the students that thousands of teachers had been recruited with the aim of providing good education, and that the diet charges had also been increased to provide more nutritious food.
Gurukul Schools are residential schools established under the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS) and the Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Society (TTWREIS) to provide quality education to children from marginalised communities. As of 2022, about six lakh students were studying in 981 Gurukul Schools in Telangana.
