BRS Working President and Minister K T Rama Rao today said that his party had never sought political alliances during elections after the creation of Telangana State.
Taking to X on Wednesday, KTR said that it was in fact the opposition parties that had come together setting aside their ideological differences to defeat the formidable Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
He claimed that in 2018 the then BJP State president Dr K Laxman had made overtures to the BRS for an alliance ahead of the GHMC elections. However, the BRS had swiftly rejected the proposal, highlighting its commitment to independent political endeavours, he said.
Condemning the allegations by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the BRS had tried to forge an alliance with the BJP, KTR said that the political tourists with selective amnesia who were fabricating stories should know this (the Laxman overture).
"Why anyway would the BRS ally with a party which didn't even get its deposits in 105 Assembly segments?" KTR asked.
He also asked why the BRS would need the support of the BJP in the GHMC elections when the party had the strength to win on its own.
The minister said that the activists of the BRS were fighters, and not cheaters like the BJP.
