BJP floor leader Dr K Lakshman no Friday alleged that the TRS government was deliberately delaying the elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) due to the fear of defeat.
Speaking to media persons in the Assembly premises, Lakshman said that it was highly unfortunate that the state government did not submit the schedule for the GHMC polls despite being reprimanded by the High Court on several occasions.
He said that it was ridiculous on the part of the state government to seek more time to conduct the elections although the term of the GHMC had come to an end on December 2, 2014.
He said that as per the 74th Amendment Act of 1992, elections to the GHMC should have been conducted six months prior to the expiry of corporation's term.
By delaying the polls on one pretext or another, the TRS government was itself giving clear indications that it would lose the polls. (INN)
