Senior MLC K R Amos on Sunday claimed that he was not in the race for the post of Chairman of the Telangana State Legislative Council.
Amos, who had recently quit the Congress to join the TRS, said that he was never in the race for any post. He made it clear that he had quit the Congress party for the reason that it was ignoring the minorities.
He said that despite strong opposition from a majority of its MLCs, the Congress appointed D Srinivas as the Leader of the Opposition in the Telangana Legislative Council purely due to the money the latter spent.
He said that a young and active leader like Mohammad Ali Shabbir was ignored by the party while a tainted leader like D Srinivas was selected for the top post.
Amos said that he never aspired for any posts during his long political career. He said that he joined the TRS for principles and not for posts.
He expressed ignorance about his being considered by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for the Chairman post. He personally advocated the candidature of Swamy Goud for the top post. He said that Swamy Goud had played an active role in the Telangana movement, and that his candidature should be considered.
Amos advised the Congress party to leave the posts of the Chairman and the Deputy Chairman to the TRS, and not contest the same. (INN)
