The Bharatiya Janata Party, on Sunday, ruled out the possibility of a Third Front in the country.
Addressing a press conference at the State BJP Headquarters, BJP national spokesperson Prakash Javedkar said that the results of Assembly elections in the 5 states clearly indicate that in the 2014 general elections, the contest would be between the National Democratic Alliance and the United Progressive Alliance. He said that talk about a Third Front was too premature and optimistic.
Javedkar said that the BJP would raise the issues of NCTC, economic policies and other failures of the UPA government during the Parliament's Budget session scheduled to begin on Monday.
He said that the proposed National Counter-terrorism Centre would be an encroachment on the powers of the state.
He said that despite opposition by a majority of Chief Ministers, the Centre was planning to constitute the NCTC which would disturb the federal set-up of the country.
The BJP spokesperson asked the UPA government not to interfere in the powers of the state through the Railways Protection Action or in the constitution of Lok Ayuktas.
Prakash Javedkar said that the by-elections to be held on 18 March would not help in the formation of a Telangana state. He said that statehood for the region cannot be achieved if the TRS wins 4 seats.
"Regional parties with 4 MPs or MLAs cannnot achieve a separate Telangana state. Statehood for the region can be achieved only by a national party like the BJP, with 200 and more MPs," he said.
The BJP leader also slammed TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao for fielding a candidate in Mahbubnagar constituency.
He said that although the BJP was contesting from only one seat out of 6 in the Telangana region, the TRS did not extend its support to the BJP. However, he hoped that the BJP would win from the Mahbubnagar constituency. (INN)
