The Centre has again poured water on the hopes of AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu who continues to push for Special Status for Andhra Pradesh.
YSR Congress Party MP Mithun Reddy has said that the Centre, in its reply to YSRCP chief and Leader of the Opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy's letter asking for Special Status for AP, made it clear that it cannot offer special category status.
Mithun Reddy stated that the Centre had said in the letter that the new state had already got everything as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, and it would therefore not receive special status or any special allocations.
He slammed the Telugu Desam Party MPs for not disclosing the letter written to Jagan by Ashish Datha, Deputy Secretary of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
In protest against the Centre's attitude, the YSRCP called for a statewide bandh on August 29, he said, and asked the people to cooperate.
