The NHRC team in town to investigate the encounter killings of the four accused in the Disha rape and murder case, today interacted with the family members of the victim.
The team took the family's version on the gruesome incident.
Her parents had refused to speak with the team earlier citing health grounds and the 10th day ritual of Disha, but on the NHRC team's appeal, later cooperated. They reached the Police Academy and are said to have given their version of the gruesome incident that took place on November 27. They reportedly complained to the NHRC of police refusal to register a case citing jurisdiction limits. Had the police registered a case and swung into action right away and searched for Disha, the heinous crime and her murder would not have happened, they said.
The NHRC also took the versions of SI Venkateshwarlu and constable Aravind Goud, who were allegedly injured during crime reconstruction at Chatanpally during inquiry. They had resorted to the encounter when the culprits tried to escape by attacking them, the police officials said.
The NHRC members had earlier examined the bodies of the four accused in the Mahabubnagar hospital on Saturday after they were killed in an encounter by police in the early hours of Friday. The High Court has asked the State government not to let the final rites of the bodies be performed until it heard the case on December 9. So the bodies of the four accused have been kept in safe custody by the officials.
Meanwhile, the post-mortem report of the four accused revealed that the bodies of the accused did not have any bullets in them. According to the police as many as 11 rounds were fired at the fleeing accused during the encounter. However the doctors who conducted post-mortem on the bodies did not find even a single bullet in them. However they found bullet injuries in the bodies, leading to speculation that the bullets had exited the bodies after injuring the accused.
As a result, the investigating officials are now planning to visit the encounter site and look for the missing bullets.
The police department has not made any statement on the missing bullets so far.
