New Vehicles In Telangana To Get TG Prefix From March 15

Minister for Transport Ponnam Prabhakar announced that all new vehicles in Telangana would get the "TG" prefix for their registration numbers from Friday.

Disclosing this to the media today, the minister said that the decision had been taken as per the aspirations of the Telangana people.

He explained that during the Telangana movement the agitators and people had replaced "AP" on the number plates of their vehicles with "TG" to express their resentment against united Andhra Pradesh. Moreover, "TG" was gazetted at the time of the creation of Telangana State on June 2, but the BRS government did not follow any rules and had decided to go with "TS" as per its whims, he alleged.

The minister also asked those who were criticising the introduction of the TG prefix to give an explanation for why the TS prefix was introduced.

The Union government has recently approved the TG prefix to replace TS on vehicle registration number plates in Telangana on the request of the State government. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways also issued a gazette notification in this regard.
