New Telangana Ration Cards By December-End: Etela
The income limit for white ration cards has been increased from Rs 60,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh in rural areas, and from Rs 75,000 to Rs 2 lakhs in urban areas.
Finance and Civil Supplies Minister Etela Rajender on Saturday announced that the new ration cards for Telangana residents would be issued by the end of December.
He disclosed this after chairing the meeting of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Ration Cards (Food Security Cards) at the State Secretariat on Saturday.
Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy and Forest Minister Jogu Ramanna were also present.
Etela informed that the Cabinet Sub-Committee had submitted its report to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, and that the latter had accepted all the recommendations made by the committee.
Etela informed that the rice quota had been increased from 4 kgs per person to 6 kgs. Further, the clause of exempting children enjoying the Mid-Day meal scheme had been removed.
The income limit for white ration cards had been increased from Rs 60,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh in rural areas, and from Rs 75,000 to Rs 2 lakhs in urban areas.
Similarly, those with upto 3.5 acres of cultivable land or 7.5 acres of barren lands would be eligible to get white ration cards.
The minister said that the ration dealers would get 20% commission. He warned the ration dealers of stern action against hoarding and black marketing. Serious action would also be taken against bogus ration card holders, he said. (INN)
