The schedule for issuing new ration cards across Telangana has been finalised.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will formally launch the distribution of 2.4 lakh new ration cards in the Thungaturthi Assembly constituency of Suryapet district on July 14.
The State government's initiative is expected to benefit 11.3 lakh poor people across Telangana. The government has already distributed new ration cards to 41 lakh people in the past six months, and with this latest phase, the total number of ration cards in the State will reach 94,72,422. Overall, approximately 3.14 crore people are benefiting from the public distribution system in Telangana.
As per reports, the Congress, after coming to power in December 2023, prioritised welfare delivery through the expansion of the Public Distribution System (PDS). Addressing long-standing demands and delays under the previous BRS regime, the Revanth Reddy-led administration reopened applications for new ration cards and expedited their processing. The distribution drive is being seen as a key step towards fulfilling the Congress' promise of ensuring food security and social welfare for the economically disadvantaged families in the State.
