The Telangana government on Wednesday comprised a cabinet sub-committee to formulate a draft notification on the creation of new districts in the State. The draft will be released by this Dussehra (October).
The five-member sub-committee comprises of Telangana Deputy Chief Ministers Mohammad Mahmood Ali and Kadiam Srihari, Finance Minister Etela Rajender, Roads & Buildings Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao and Rural Development Minister Jupally Krishna Rao.
The sub-committee will address the following issues:
(a) The number of districts to be formed; (b) Interim arrangements needed for the functioning of the newly-formed districts; (c) Government infrastructure including office buildings for the newly appointed district officials; (d) Formulating guidelines for employee-allocation to the zones, and elaboration on zonal systems under presidential orders; (e) Formulating guidelines for re-organizing departments for the new districts;
The terms of reference for the sub-committee show that there is no clear consensus on the number of new districts to be created. Earlier, media reports placed the number at between 15 and 17, but that's only speculation. The issue, anyway, will be addressed by the sub-committee.
