Two more districts will come into being in Telangana from February 17, the birthday of TRS supremo and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.

The state government released a gazette notification on Saturday to this effect, creating Mulugu and Narayanpet districts.

With this, the total number of districts in Telangana will rise to 33. It was 10 when the state was created, and became 31 during the first term of the TRS.

The government has also appointed Collectors and Superintendents of Police to the new districts. It issued orders directing Mahbubnagar Collector Ronald Ross to take additional charge as Collector of Narayanapet, and Mahabubnagar SP Rema Rajeshwari to take additional charge as SP of the same district.

Likewise, the government asked Bhupalapally Collector Venkateshwarlu and SP Bhasker to take additional charge as Collector and SP respectively of Mulugu.

The TRS leaders are expectedly portraying the new districts as a gift from the Chief Minister on his birthday.
