The Communist Party of India (CPI) demanded that the State government convene an all-Party meeting to discuss the recent abolition of the Zonal system in Telangana by the State government.
In a statement to the media, CPI State Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy alleged that the sudden decision to abolish the Zonal system was a shocker to unemployed youth. He said that the united Andhra Pradesh government had divided the State into six zones following Article 371-D. The first four zones were in present AP while 5 to 6 zones were present in Telangana. And he recalled that the Zonal system was created for the empowerment of socially backward people in the districts of the two States.
Alleging that the Telangana government divided the 10 districts into 31 districts unscientifically, Reddy found fault with the State government for abolishing the zonal system unilaterally. He opined that the State government should have discussed the issue at least in the Legislative Assembly.
The CPI questioned the State government on the issue when the new districts were being created, but the Chief Minister had rebuked it by saying that the State government had the right to take the "right" decision.
