Independence Day celebrations in Telangana were muted this year, thanks to the coronavirus and the heavy rains.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan hoisted the flag in Pragathi Bhavan and the Raj Bhavan respectively, Speaker P Srinivas Reddy in the Assembly premises, and Hyderabad Mayor B Rammohan in the GHMC headquarters.
The ministers, whips and other dignitaries concerned attended the official celebration events in the various districts of state as per the government order.
Municipal Administration and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao unfurled the tricolour in Rajanna-Sircilla district, and took a guard of honour from the police.
Local leaders and district officials were present.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the celebrations were being conducted in a low key manner this year due to the coronavirus.
Likewise, Excise and Sports Minister V Srinivas Goud unfurled the tricolour in the Mahabubnagar district, and also took a guard of honour from the police.
Other districts, too, saw the minister in charge of the district presiding over the official celebrations.
