The murder of Maru Ganga Reddy, a close aide of Congress MLC Jeevan Reddy, has escalated tensions in Jagtial.
Ganga Reddy, 53, was struck by a car and stabbed 20 times near Jabitapur in Jagtial district. The gruesome killing prompted Jeevan Reddy to launch a protest, heightening the political tension. During the protest, he criticized his own party, the Congress, sparking rumours that he may distance himself from it.
Reddy reportedly expressed his frustration to PCC chief Mahesh Goud over the phone, and said that he couldn't remain in the party if the situation continued.
Adding to the political intrigue, Jagtial MLA Sanjay Kumar, a former BRS leader who recently joined the Congress, called the local SP and asked him to act to identify and punish the accused at the earliest. Jeevan Reddy had strongly opposed Sanjay's entry into the party, and rivalry between the two factions is intense, and Jeevan Reddy was said to be upset with Kumar intervening in the issue. The incident has deepened the power struggle between the factions of Kumar and Reddy, further aggravating the already volatile political atmosphere in the constituency.
