The 13th edition of the Hyderabad 10K Run took place early this morning with over 10,000 runners participating.
The 13th edition of the Hyderabad 10K Run took place early this morning with over 10,000 runners including children, senior citizens, armature runners, professional athletes, students and army jawans, irrespective of gender, participating in the event.
The presence of flying Sikh 87-year-old Olympian Milkha Singh boosted the spirits of the first timers.
In a talk prior to kicking off the event, Singh urged the organizers to set up a training academy to train budding runners, irrespective of the financial status of such runners.
Singh also urged the youth of the country to achieve medals in the Olympics. He recollected how he had lost by a whisker, and hoped that this dream would be fulfilled during his lifetime.
Later, Singh, along with the organizers of the Hyderabad 10K Run, flagged off the event. First they kick-started the Elite 10 Run Category, and that was followed by the 10K Run Open Category.
After that, those participating in the 5K run were flagged off by Singh.
The winners were selected in each of six categories of runners. Some of them were:
Elite 10K Run Category for Men
First Position - Man Singh, Hyderabad (28 m 43 s)
Second Position - B Srinivas, Hyderabad (28 m 48 s)
Third Position - Deepak Kumar, Hyderabad (29 m 22 s)
Elite 10K Run Category for Women
First Position - Monika Rout, Hyderabad (33 m 17 s)
Second Position - Monika Chowdhary, Hyderabad (34 m 25 s)
Third Position - Manisha Solanki, Pune (35 m 5 s)
Medals were distributed by the organizers. Cultural programs were also organized at the main venue, and several school bands performed along the entire route. The Hyderabad police took measures to make the event peaceful.
