A low intensity explosion rocked the Delhi High Court at around 1:30pm on Wednesday. The blast occured close to a silver Ford Figo parked near gate number 7 at the court's parking lot.
An eye-witness recounted that he was among a group of men close to the parking lot, who, having heard an explosion, rushed towards the source of the sound to find a car on fire. He narrated that they had tried to douse the fire with buckets of water, and that they had then alerted the police about the incident.
The eye-witness also added that the group spotted beside the car a bag from which smoke was emanating.
The police responded by immediately pressing 4 fire tenders into service.
The High Court was later cordoned off by the Delhi Police.
A bomb disposal squad, an anti-terrorism squad and a team from the Central Crime Branch are currently scrutinizing the parking lot for evidences.
According to sources, a quantity of wires and fragments of a radiator were found at the site of the blast.
The silver Ford Figo reportedly belongs to a lawyer named Rajat Jain, who is employed at the Delhi High Court. He is currently being interrogated by the police.
No casualties have been reported thus far.
