In a sensational verdict, the Andhra Pradesh High Court today ordered a CBI inquiry into the controversial Dr Sudhakar harassment and subsequent arrest case.
It asked the CBI to book a case against the accused police officers and investigate the matter.
It also asked the CBI to submit its report within 8 weeks.
The High Court passed the orders while responding to a letter written by Telugu Mahila president Anitha.
In her letter, Anitha alleged that the police had misbehaved with the doctor. She also claimed that the body of the doctor also had injuries on it.
The High Court tnen took suo moto cognisance of the case and issued notices to the state government.
It had initially
issued orders to a local sessions judge to visit the hospital and record the statement of the victim at the hospital.
The court then took the statement of the victim into consideration and issued orders for a CBI inquiry into the issue.
The police had arrested the doctor at Port Hospital after they received a call that he was creating a nuisance on the National Highway. They booked a case under Sections 353 and 427 of the IPC against him.
The doctor had been suspended from service last month after he made allegations against the state government.
