Meira Kumar Slams KCR About Promised Dalit CM

Senior Congress leader and former Speaker of the Lok Sabha Meira Kumar today slammed Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for deliberately failing to keep the promise of making a Dalit leader the Chief Minister of Telangana.

"Despite knowing that it would lose the elections in the Andhra region if the then united Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated, the Congress High Command, come what may, delivered statehood," she said at a poll campaign at Bhupalapally in the Warangal district on Sunday. "Now KCR is just mesmerizing the people and not doing anything for the better."

Expressing displeasure at the state of affairs in Telangana, the Congress leader said that the voters in the region would teach a lesson to the TRS, as the Biharis recently did to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP.

Meira Kumar said that social justice was lacking in Telangana. She expressed concern over 1,500 suicides committed by farmers in the State.

She charged that both the Prime Minister and the Telangana Chief Minister had made tall promises and ignored them.

Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh, too, flayed the TRS government, saying that it had miserably failed on all fronts. He said that the present by-election was the result of KCR's dictatorial style of functioning.

Singh, too, likened KCR to Narendra Modi in telling lies in the last general elections. While Modi became the Prime Minister through that, KCR became the Chief Minister, he said. Upon coming to power, however, their governments did not implement the promises made in their respective manifestos, he fumed.

No development had taken place so far in the infant State of Telangana, he added.

The AICC leader exhorted the people of Warangal to cast their votes in favour of Sarve Satyanarayana as the Congress had delivered statehood to Telangana.

Former Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy also slammed KCR for deceiving the people. Where was KCR when the Telangana Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha and the Sakala Janula Samme was going on, he asked.
