Telangana Congress in-charge and AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh today said that his Party would announce its candidate for the Warangal Lok Sabha by-election in two or three days.
Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday, Singh said that he had sought the opinions of Party leaders on the issue.
He said that he had also held a special meeting with brothers G Vinod and G Vivek at Gandhi Bhavan and discussed with them the by-election.
It is learnt that Vivek was not interested in contesting the by-election. The Party High Command tried its best to convince him to contest. However, Vivek made it it that he would not contest, and suggested that the party ticket be given to former union minister Sarve Satyanarayana.
When asked, Satyanarayana told Singh that he was ready to contest the by-election.
Singh also had meetings with the Warangal district Congress leaders and gathered their opinions on the candidate to be fielded in Warangal. He also conferred with Greater Hyderabad Congress leaders Danam Nagender, D Sudheer Reddy, Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, K Mallesh and others. During this, Danam complained to the AICC leader that the Party's current local leaders were not informing him about the Party activities.
Incidentally, one Sammaiah Bochu filed three sets of nomination papers on behalf of the Indian National Congress on Thursday to contest the by-election, according to the Returning Officer & Warangal Collector.
