Tension prevailed at Basheerbagh on Friday, when the Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti launched an "Atma Gaurava Yatra" in protest against the
attack on Handlooms & Textiles Minister P Shankar Rao.
Led by MRPS founder Manda Krishna Madiga, the activists launched the Yatra at Babu Jagjivanram's statue, demanding that the government immediately arrest Karthik Reddy, the son of Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, for his alleged involvement in the attack on Shankar Rao.
However, police took the activists, including Krishna Madiga, into custody.
The MRPS activists had a heated argument with the police over the arrest.
MRPS president Bhaskar Madiga and Secretary Surender Madiga were also taken into custody by the police, and everyone was shifted to the Nampally police station.
Talking to reporters, Krishna Madiga accused the government of shielding Karthik Reddy since he is the Home Minister's son.
He said that the MRPS would stage dharnas and rallies on 26 December across the state, protesting the attack on Shankar Rao.
The MRPS will also take out a rally from Shankar Rao's residence to NTR Nagar, where he was attacked, on 27 December. (INN)
