Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that his party was committed to social justice in the country.
He made these remarks while addressing a public meeting, named Madigala Viswaroopa Mahasabha, held by the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) at the Parade Grounds in Secunderabad.
Speaking on the occasion, Modi congratulated all those who had come to the meeting. He said that his joy was doubled as he was among those he wanted to be with ahead of Diwali. He said that MRPS founder Manda Krishna was like his younger brother, and that he would stand by Manda Krishna's 30-year fight for SC categorisation and extend his full support to the struggle of the Madigas.
Modi claimed that only the BJP stood by the depressed classes. "Since independence, many governments ruled this country. However, it was only the BJP that implemented social justice. All previous governments have cheated the Madigas. I have come to cleanse the sins committed by the previous governments. I apologize for the promises made by the political parties all these years that were later broken," he said.
Targeting the BRS then, Modi added, "The BRS government here was formed 10 years ago. However, despite that lengthy period in office, the expectations of the people here have not been fulfilled. The BRS has also cheated the Madigas all through these 10 years. KCR cheated the dalits by retracting from his promise of making a dalit leader the first CM of the State. Dalit Bandhu has become a scheme for relatives of the BRS leadership. And the farmers have been cheated by promises of loan waiver that were not kept," he said.
Speaking after the PM, Manda Krishna said that for decades the Madigas had been looked down upon and treated worse than cattle. "This is a dream coming true. We didn't expect PM Modi to come to our meeting. Thank you Modiji for coming to give courage to our community. KCR has continuously suppressed the Madigas, and there is no place in the Telangana cabinet for a single member of our highly backward community, while the Velama community, which does not constitute even 1% of the population of Telangana, has been given four ministerial posts. Modi however has given multiple positions to the Madigas. He has also promised he would make a BC leader the Chief Minister of the State," he said.
He also claimed that Modi was the only leader who implemented B R Ambedkar's ideals. "Modi made a dalit leader the President of the country. And after winning a second term, Modi made a tribal woman the President of the country. While the Congress and the BRS only talk about social justice, Modi IS ACTUALLY implementing it," he said.
BJP State president Kishan Reddy also addressed the gathering.
