The much-awaited L B Nagar flyover was inaugurated today, giving a major reprieve to commuters of the area from regular traffic snarls.
Telangana Home Minister Mahmood Ali, Animal Husbandry Minister T Srinivas Yadav and Labour Minister Ch Malla Reddy, and GHMC Mayor B Rammohan threw open the flyover at the L B Nagar crossroads to the general public.
Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiyuddin, MLA Sudhir Reddy, GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore and others attended the program.
The flyover was built at a cost of Rs 42 crore, and is 780 metres long and 12 metres wide. The launch was delayed by a month.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahmood Ali said that the flyover would address the chronic traffic issues of the area, and reduce travelling time for people going towards Hayatnagar, Choutuppal and Vijayawada. The underpass would also be operational, he said.
Srinivas Yadav said that the flyover was taken up under package two through the Rs 25,000-crore SRDP project. Rs 448 crore was being spent on underpasses and flyovers near junctions, and Hyderabad would become a signal-free city through these flyovers, he said. He added that the Biramalguda and Kamineni flovers were also ready for launch.
