The Andhra Pradesh High Court, on Tuesday, issued summons to law and courts minister Erasu Prathap Reddy and mines and geology minister Galla Aruna Kumari, over their alleged involvement in granting limestone mining leases in Kurnool district, violating rules and regulations.
The court issued the notices to the ministers, following a petition filed by Pradeep Kumar, a practising advocate from Kurnool district. In his petition, Pradeep Kumar alleged that the ministers, while granting 40 acres of land to Deccan Minerals for limestone mining, had violated all rules and regulations.
He appealed to the court to direct the government to cancel the mining leases, as, he stated, the ministers had acted favourably to private parties, to benefit their personal interests.
After hearing the arguments, the court issued notices to both the ministers, and sought their explanation within 2 weeks. It also posted the petition for further hearing to after 2 weeks. (INN)
